Cancel Prime Video Subscription
You cancel the membership. The next month, a charge shows up anyway. Nothing broke. You cancelled one thing and left two others running, because a streaming account can hold three separate billing agreements at once: the membership itself, any channels you added inside it, and an ad-free upgrade you may have accepted without reading the screen.
By the end of this you will have the cancel order, the refund line to send, and a way to confirm the charges actually stopped.
Kill every charge, not just the obvious one
Open your bank or card statement and search the last three months for the streaming provider's name. Write down every line item and the amount. Most people find one. Some find three. That list is your checklist, and you are not done until each line has a matching cancellation confirmation email.
Set your own threshold before you start: any recurring charge you cannot explain in one sentence gets cancelled today, not researched later.
Add-on channels bill separately
Channels you subscribed to inside the app are their own subscriptions. The platform collects the money and passes it along, but the agreement is with the channel. Cancelling the parent membership does not touch them. They keep renewing, usually at a higher monthly price than the membership itself.
This is the charge that survives. If you added a premium channel during a free trial two years ago and forgot, it has been renewing every month since.
The ad-free fee is a third line
Ads arrived on the main streaming tier in 2024, and the provider began selling ad-free viewing back as a separate monthly add-on. If you clicked through that prompt, you have an extra recurring charge attached to your account. Check the current amount on your own statement rather than trusting a number you read somewhere; the price moves and yours is the only one that matters.
One cancel is designed to look complete
The confirmation screen says your membership is cancelled. It is telling the truth about the membership and staying quiet about everything else. No rule requires it to list your other active subscriptions on the way out.
Companies keep the money from subscriptions people forgot they had. That is not a conspiracy, just a default that favors whoever wrote the flow. You checked. Most people don't.
Cancel in this order
Order matters, because once the membership lapses you may lose the screen that lists your channels.
- Go to the site on a desktop browser, not the app. Open Account, then Memberships and Subscriptions.
- Cancel each add-on channel first. One at a time. Confirm each one.
- Cancel the ad-free upgrade if it appears as its own line.
- Cancel the membership last.
- Screenshot each confirmation and note the date.
Then set a calendar reminder for 35 days out to recheck your statement. A cancellation you never verified is a guess.
Send this line for a refund
If you were charged for a renewal you have not used, open chat support and send this:
"I cancelled today and watched nothing since the renewal date. Please refund this charge."
Two facts, one request, no argument. Support agents can usually approve a refund on an unused billing period without escalating, and giving them a clean reason makes approval easy. If the first agent declines, ask for the request to be escalated once, then stop. Your time has a value; decide before you open the chat how many minutes this charge is worth, and honor it.
Save that sentence somewhere you can find it. Every subscription you cancel from now on has the same failure mode: one visible agreement on top, quieter ones underneath. The habit worth keeping is the statement scan, not the cancel click.
